Allyson McHugh, MAT

Currently the ELA Supervisor for grades 6-12 at Duxbury Public Schools, Allyson has 20 years of experience in middle and high school classrooms. As an English teacher at Waltham High School, Allyson focused on finding an entry point for all of her students, no matter their age, background, or aspirations. She brought the same student-centered approach to her roles in administration.  As the ELA Director 6-12 at Waltham Public Schools,  Allyson worked to create opportunities for adult collaboration and innovation, using department time as a chance to rethink curriculum, pedagogy, and grading. As the Director of The Changemaker Academy, Allyson led the educator team to reimagine the learning environment by blurring the lines between and among subject areas, making purposeful connections between the curriculum and the community, and striving to make learning authentic. In her two years at Duxbury Public Schools, Allyson has focused on deeper learning initiatives, led professional development in data practices, and developed proactive intervention programs.

Allyson earned a BA from Fairfield University and an MAT from Boston College. For the last six years, Allyson has been a member of The Deeper Learning Dozen and has participated in national convenings, centered on systems change and equitable practices.
