    Join us for an engaging and hands-on professional development session designed to prepare elementary educators (grades 3-8) for the upcoming shifts in the Massachusetts STE MCAS. Facilitated by Katie Clarke, this workshop will explore the vision behind these changes, focusing on helping students do science, rather than merely learning about it.


    Participants will:

    • Build an understanding of the principles guiding the new Grade 5 and 8 STE MCAS, the shift towards more inclusive, real-world performance tasks, and their implications for classroom instruction.
    • Gain insight into the new assessment structure through an exploration of the storyline-based tasks, which integrate science and engineering practices with diverse, relevant scenarios.
    • Participate in practice activities that mirror the student experience with these innovative performance tasks, allowing teachers to see firsthand the skills students will need to demonstrate.
    • Walk away with practical tools and resources to make the necessary instructional shifts, ensuring all students are prepared to succeed on the new assessments.

    This workshop offers a collaborative space for educators to share ideas, reflect on classroom practice, and leave with strategies for aligning instruction with the STE MCAS goals. Perfect for teachers looking to stay ahead of the curve in science education and assessment.
