Bayard Klimasmith, EdM, MAT
Bayard brings over 30 years of experience in driving innovative education as a classroom teacher, administrator, and consultant. He earned his Ed.M. in school leadership from Harvard Graduate School of Education and holds a M.A.T. from the University of New Hampshire, where he focused on creating high-engagement classrooms and exploring alternative assessment strategies. He obtained his B.A. in government and environmental policy from Wesleyan University, where he also pursued his passions for singing, acting, and enjoying the outdoors.
Most recently, Bayard served as an Assistant Principal in a middle school in Lexington, MA, for 14 years. During his tenure, he focused on developing the school’s MTSS systems, shaping the district-wide mentoring program, integrating restorative justice techniques into student support practices, and implementing school-wide systems designed to remove barriers to learning. Before taking on this role, he served as Assistant Principal at Wayland High School, where he focused on enhancing the effectiveness of leadership teams. Prior to becoming a school administrator, Bayard worked as a consultant, training teachers on a range of topics, including Lesson Study, classroom motivation, Universal Design, literacy coaching, curriculum mapping, and technology integration.
Bayard began his career as an assistant teacher in a combined 4th/5th-grade classroom, completed his secondary school training at a high school within the Coalition of Essential Schools, and then taught English and social studies at a high school in Washington State, where he also served as the head of the social studies department.
He is particularly passionate about supporting teachers in developing classrooms that are engaging, inclusive, and rigorous for all students. Bayard is an agile systems thinker who excels in facilitating meetings, promoting collaborative decision-making, and assisting schools with strategic planning.
