Caitlan Sheehan, MEd, CAGS
Ms. Sheehan currently serves as the Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion for the Duxbury Public School district. There she works to ensure Duxbury schools provide skill-based, obstacle-free access to a learning environment that affirms each student’s unique identity, fosters a respect for all viewpoints, and builds inclusivity for all groups, especially those that have been historically marginalized. Before transitioning to her current role in school administration, Caitlan was a history teacher in Duxbury, where she served as an integral part of the teaching staff and mentor program for ten years.
Currently Ms. Sheehan serves on the Principals’ Advisory Cabinet for the Department of Secondary and Elementary Education (DESE) and is a member of the DESE Teacher Diversification Professional Learning Community. She has also presented at a number of national and regional conferences, including twice at the National Conference for Social Studies in both Washington, DC, and San Francisco. Caitlan works with districts, educators, and community groups to adopt behaviors and mindsets that are consistent with the organization’s values and goals in order to effect sustainable change. She has led teacher and administrator professional development and coursework in culturally responsive teaching, strategic planning, program execution, coaching for equity, and calibrating leadership and evaluation methodologies to increase student outcomes.
Ms. Sheehan holds a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study in Educational Leadership from the University of Massachusetts at Boston, a Master’s Degree in Education from Lesley University, and a Bachelor’s Degree in History from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. As a lifelong learner, she is eager to explore a doctoral degree in educational equity and is currently investigating options for that opportunity.
