Molly Vokey, MEd

Molly Vokey has been an independent math consultant for 18 years, training in elementary and middle schools in over 30 districts across Massachusetts and throughout New England. Her passion lies in providing opportunities to develop curiosity around math for teachers and students alike.  Molly has extensive experience with many aspects of our educational system, as a math teacher, an administrative intern, and most recently as a consultant working with teachers, math coaches, administrators, and curriculum directors.   She has presented locally and nationally at multiple NCTM national, regional, and virtual conferences.  Teacher 2 Teachers Global (now Mathkind) provided Molly an opportunity to present at a conference in Antigua, Guatemala in 2019, and she spent the summer of 2021 meeting weekly on zoom with teachers in Zimbabwe discussing ways to bring students ideas to the center of the classroom experience.

Prior to consulting, Molly was a middle school math and science teacher at St. Joseph’s School in Quincy, MA and the Galvin Middle School in Canton, MA.  This is where she found her need to go deeper in her math learning.  Even though she has her undergraduate degree in mathematics from Regis College and her master’s degree in Education Administration from UMASS Boston, where her focus was on curriculum development, she realized that her math understanding was more procedural than conceptual.  Molly took advantage of many professional development opportunities and eventually began doing workshops for Glencoe-McGraw Hill providing workshops as teachers transitioned to a standards-based program called IMPACT Mathematics.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, Molly was a co-host of the Math Together Show which aired weekly on Facebook live in an effort to reach teachers in their homes.  With little work and lots of time she began listening to podcasts and reading about equity and access.  She is now a co-host of Math 4 All with Dr. Heidi Sabnani, where she talks about hot topics in math education with prominent educational leaders.  Both shows have offered leaders in equity a platform for discussion to bring their work further into the public’s mind.

Molly is the co-author, with Dr. Heidi Sabnani, of Math Activators for Reasoning Grades 3-10, a book designed to stimulate conversations around understanding fractions, decimals, and integers in elementary, middle, and high schools.  Math Activators for Reasoning will be published by Didax in 2022.
