Deb Moriarty, MEd
Deb Moriarty brings more than 25 years of experience helping districts strengthen literacy instruction and build systems that ensure all students develop the foundational reading, writing, and language skills they need to thrive. At AthenaK12, she partners with school and district leaders to translate research and state priorities into practical, high-impact strategies—especially in early literacy, MTSS, and data-driven improvement.
Deb currently serves as Supervisor of Elementary Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment for Weston Public Schools, where she leads PreK–5 academic strategy and works closely with principals and teacher leaders to strengthen Tier 1 instruction, build coherent and standards-aligned systems, and support equitable outcomes for all students. She is known for translating state priorities and research-based practices into practical, high-impact approaches that improve classroom instruction.
Previously, as K–6 English Language Arts Director in Hopkinton Public Schools, Deb led the district’s comprehensive literacy strategy. She guided the implementation of evidence-based curriculum, strengthened vertical alignment, and introduced early literacy screening and intervention practices that supported both students and educators. Her leadership consistently centers on building teacher capacity through meaningful professional learning and coaching.
Earlier in her career, Deb worked as a literacy coach, consultant, and university lecturer, reflecting her long-standing passion for developing educators. She has designed and delivered graduate-level coursework and district-wide professional learning, partnering with institutions such as Brandeis University, Simmons University, and Endicott College to prepare and mentor future teachers and leaders.
Deb began her career as an elementary classroom and special education teacher, an experience that continues to shape her practical, student-centered approach. She holds a Master of Arts in Education from the University of Connecticut and a Bachelor of Arts in Education/Special Education from Providence College. She is licensed in Massachusetts as a Reading Specialist, Elementary Supervisor/Director, and Superintendent/Assistant Superintendent, and holds an SEI endorsement.
