Richard Kelley
Richard Kelley has worked in public education in a variety of roles. Richard started his career as a middle school science teacher in Weymouth, then taught high school biology, chemistry, and physics at Silver Lake Regional High School. After seven years in the classroom, and always passionate about equity in education and student mental health, Richard served as a guidance counselor for twelve years. He then became an assistant principal at Silver Lake, and after five years as assistant, he served as Principal of Silver Lake Regional High School, guiding the school through de-regionalization and the building of a new high school complex. Richard retired from this position after thirteen years in the role of principal.
Richard began work at the Massachusetts School Administrators Association (MSAA) upon retirement. He served as the Director of Professional Development and was also the liaison to the Teaching and Learning Committee and Vocational Administrators Committee. Richard served on several committees with the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), most recently the college and career planning project, MyCap. He also worked with DESE as a School Redesign Grant Reviewer and Site Visitation Evaluator.
Richard received his BS in Biology from Suffolk University, his M.Ed. in Education from Bridgewater State University, and a Physical Sciences Teaching Mastery Certificate from Boston University. Richard was named the Principal of the Year for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in 2010 and represented the state at a convocation held in Washington, DC.
