Mary Emmons, MS

Mary has over 30 years of professional experience in special education and a lifetime of personal experience advocating for a family member with special needs. She recently retired as the Administrator for Student Services for the Lincoln Public Schools. Mary began her career as an elementary level Special Educator and taught in four other states before arriving in Massachusetts in 1996. Mary’s other administrative roles during her career have included Special Education Director, Special Education Administrator at the secondary level (7-12+) and Out-of-District Coordinator. Her experience has helped her to understand and value the importance of inclusionary practices within the public school setting and the need to support general education with ensuring equity and access for all students.


Mary holds a B.S. in Special Education and Elementary Education from the University of South Dakota and a M.S. in Special Education from Simmons College. Her MA Certifications include Special Needs (PreK-9), Special Needs (5-12) and Special Education Administrator (All Levels). In 2022, she completed mediation training hours through the Community Dispute Settlement Center.


Mary is committed to child-centered decision making and the importance of building strong relationships with students to address their individual educational and social-emotional needs. She believes in the critical importance of inclusionary practices and providing appropriate educational, emotional and behavioral interventions and accommodations/modifications through a cultural, racial, and disability lens. She is also committed to working with others to develop effective and collaborative parent and school partnerships.  Mary is interested in program development and program review as well as providing consultation and mentorship. She has extensive experience and knowledge with state and federal special education regulations and laws and can support others with implementation and compliance.
