Maureen Huddleston
I came to the field of education from a personal circumstance and never imagined that I could turn a passion into a career. I have been dedicated to supporting educators since 2011 and have never found anything else to be so professionally rewarding.
I began my career in financial operations and quality assurance which was seemingly a good fit for me. I enjoyed the ever-changing, fast-paced environment, creative problem solving, and analysis and have always felt that I am a great, ‘behind the scenes’ type of person who gains satisfaction from supporting others. This continued when I moved to a position in a Catholic high school working in Advancement. I enjoyed getting to know the faculty, parents, and students and working hard to support all constituents. I made deep connections there, and the change in environment was very welcome and felt like ‘home’ to me.
I further tested my organizational and process skills when I had four kids in less than two years. It became evident early on that two of my children had special needs but very different from each other. I enrolled in the advocacy training course at the Federation for Children with Special Needs which was incredibly valuable. I volunteered there and on my own and started working with parents on finding better solutions and support for their children. When I stopped working to better focus on my four young children, I became very involved in our local public school and Massachusetts Special Olympics. Once I was ready to go back to work, I knew I wanted an organization centered on education. I love my conversations with district teachers and leaders, getting to the heart of the issue, and knowing how AthenaK12 can help support them. Being part of a collaborative team and working together towards a common goal is at the heart of who I am.
