Mary Canner, MEd

Mary’s expertise as an educational consultant is solidly grounded in her decades of success as a classroom teacher, reading specialist, and elementary school principal. Under Mary’s leadership as a principal, her school implemented a comprehensive literacy instructional model and was one of 26 schools in the U.S. and Canada honored with the International Reading Association’s Exemplary Reading Program Award. She holds a C.A.S. in Teaching, Curriculum and Learning Environments from Harvard Graduate School of Education, an M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction with Specialization in Literacy from Lesley College, and a Phi Beta Kappa, Magna Cum Laude B.A. degree from Brown University.  Mary brings a wealth of knowledge, energy, and passion to her highly successful work with educators in urban, suburban, and rural schools and districts. She specializes in effective literacy instructional practices focused on Reading and Writing Workshop, small group instruction (guided reading, guided writing, strategy groups), supporting student development through conferring, word study approaches, and literacy assessment practices that inform targeted instruction. Mary also teaches in Framingham State University’s Literacy and Language M.Ed. Program.  Additionally, she supports educators at all levels in:
