Mary Merrigan, PhD

Mary brings more than 25 years of experience in public education to AthenaK12.  Currently the Head of School at Notre Dame Academy in Hingham, Mary previously worked as the Director of Curriculum and Assessment K-12 in Hull, and as a middle school teacher pioneering innovative classroom technology initiatives on behalf of IBM/Eduquest and The Weathenet Classroom. More recently, she has worked as an Instructional Coach supporting classroom teachers in best practice and strategic Response to Intervention data collection and analysis. She also has experience in Special Education as an Out of District Student Coordinator supervising case management responsibilities for students placed outside her school district. Mary holds a deep commitment to embedded, adult learning goals for teachers in all aspects of her coaching and consultancy endeavors, drawing heavily from her doctoral study insights involving professional learning communities. She has earned great praise for her efforts in training mentors, helping develop professional learning communities, working with teacher teams and coaching administrators to support implementation of instructional initiatives. Mary earned her Bachelors of Arts in Elementary Education from UMASS/Amherst, a Master’s Degree in School Administration from Bridgewater State College, and her Doctorate in Educational Studies from Lesley University.
