Reena Slovin, MEd
Reena Slovin has focused her career on school leadership as well as diagnosis and intervention for students with special learning needs. In a variety of settings, she has overseen student support services and trained teachers in differentiating instruction so as to engage students and help them thrive socially, emotionally and intellectually. In her role as a principal at the Elementary division of the Maimonides school of Brookline, Massachusetts, she supervised and coached teachers, working with them on curriculum mapping; using data to inform instruction; reporting effectively on student growth; and developing a growth mindset. Reena spearheaded the professional development at Maimonides which focused on action research, experimentation and collaborative data-driven school wide improvement, utilizing key adult learning practices such as “Instructional Rounds” and “Critical Friends Groups” protocols. Research based literacy instruction for both Hebrew and English is an area of expertise and passion for her as well.
Reena holds a bachelor's degree in Human Development from Cornell University, an MEd. in Special Education from Boston University and a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study in Reading and Language from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. She has completed several educational leadership courses through Harvard University’s programs at the Principal’s Center and Research for Better Teaching.
Prior to Maimonides, Reena coordinated student support services and provided professional development for the Greater Boston area Jewish day schools through Gateways; Access to Jewish Education. For twenty years before that, she directed student support services and Judaic Studies at the Solomon Schechter Day School / New Jewish Academy, of Worcester Massachusetts. She also has also served as a psychoeducational diagnostician, evaluating the educational and cognitive functioning of school age children with learning difficulties in several clinical settings, including Childrens' Hospital; University of Massachusetts Medical Center; Clark University and Lesley University. Currently, Reena is working as a private educational consultant.
