Shoshy Starr, MEd
Shoshy brings over 27 years of experience as a Special Educator and classroom teacher in the Natick Public Schools, an instructional coach in Boston and Wellesley Public Schools, and a college instructor at Boston University, Salem State University, Wheelock College and Framingham State University. She has also been a researcher for the University of Delaware on the moves of instructional coaches and their impact. She holds a Masters degree in Special Education from American University and a Bachelors of Science in Elementary Education from the University of Vermont.
Shoshy’s greatest passion is helping teachers, teacher leaders, and school leaders improve their practice, and for more than 16 years, Shoshy has consulted in literacy, mathematics, special education, curriculum, instructional coaching, and teacher leadership in prek-12 urban, suburban, public and private districts across Massachusetts. In each school setting, she builds strong professional relationships, analyzes the needs of the individuals and school, and provides concrete strategies for making improvements. She works with superintendents, curriculum directors, principals, teacher leaders, and teachers, providing them with support, new skills, and the confidence to make changes in their practice.
What Shoshy loved most about teaching in the elementary classroom was helping her students grow as thinkers and decision makers, and building a classroom community where students had a voice in their learning. She brings those same elements to her workshops and coaching sessions with adult learners. She gets to know the culture of the school, what's working, and what the goals are, then embeds reflective practice in the work so that participants can make observations, ask questions, and think deeply about their own learning.
