Christine Moynihan, PhD
Dr. Christine Moynihan has an extensive career as an educational leader and classroom teacher. From a young age, Christine’s strong curiosity about why things worked mathematically and how ideas and concepts were connected helped her gain a conceptual understanding that has stood her in good stead both as a student and as an educator. Most recently, she put her expertise to good use serving as an elementary school principal in Brookline, MA, a role she previously held in Taunton and Newton. Prior to her years as principal, she spent twelve years as a mathematics curriculum specialist in Wayland and Westwood - with five of those years in both mathematics and science. Before specializing in curriculum, Christine spent seventeen years as a classroom teacher in kindergarten and grades 2 through 6 in Dover and Natick. Chris currently consults with schools and districts to assist them in improving their quality of education for all students. For Chris, the bottom line of all of this work is to refine and improve the quality of education for students and there is no better way to do that than to support the teachers and administrators who do that work on a daily basis.
Christine holds a Ph.D. in curriculum and instruction from Boston College with a specialization in mathematics education and is licensed in Massachusetts as a
teacher, principal, and superintendent.
She regularly presents at the local, state, and national levels at conferences including NCTM, NCSM, ATMIM, and ATMNE, and stays connected with students by sharing her expertise and passion for learning as a tutor from elementary through post-high school levels. In addition, Christine has authored two books,
Math Sense: The Look, Sound, and Feel of Effective Math Instruction, and
Common Core Sense: Tapping the Power of the Mathematical Practices
(Stenhouse Publications).
The first of nine siblings, Christine always wanted to work with children and do something that makes a difference. Chris has always seen it as a challenge to assess where each and every child is in his learning, determine his strengths, and then help set the stage for the next steps in his learning. She loves the idea that, as a teacher, she gets to be a companion on the journey of learning.
