Tammy Ghizzoni, MEd
Currently the Middle School Mathematics Department Chair for the Needham Public Schools, Tammy has more than 25 years of experience in middle and elementary education as a classroom teacher, lead teacher, assistant principal, curriculum coordinator, and department chair. Prior to becoming the math department head, Tammy served as Needham’s math and science curriculum and instruction coordinator for grades 6-8, providing leadership for 31 teachers across two middle schools.
During her tenure in Needham, Tammy has implemented a number of student centered programs such as Launching Scholars, a program committed to improving math skills and competencies for traditionally marginalized populations of students. She also designed curriculum for, taught, and expanded the Data Science classes and programming, and was instrumental in the growth of the Engineering Program at Pollard Middle School. In addition, she collaborated with the K-8 literacy specialist to incorporate literacy strategies in the middle school mathematics classrooms.
Tammy is not only committed to student growth, she is dedicated to professional development for herself and her colleagues. She served on the district REAL (Race, Equity, Access, and Leadership) Team, implemented professional development around Accountable Talk strategies, Mindfulness, Equity, Inclusivity, and Access in the mathematics classroom, and continues to support new teachers and administrators through mentoring and coaching. She has also coordinated all math-related professional development for the special education department.
Tammy earned her BS from the University of Vermont, a Masters of Arts in Mathematics from the University of South Alabama, and a second EdM in Organizational Management from Endicott College. She is certified in MA as a Superintendent/Assistant Superintendent, Principal/Assistant Principal (K-6/5-8/9-12), Supervisor and math teacher (5-8).
Tammy lives in Needham with her son.
