Sarah Connell Sanders

Sarah Connell Sanders has been a MA public school teacher for over 14 years. She is currently a Teaching Librarian in the Worcester Public Schools and was previously an English teacher, English Department Chair, and Media Specialist.


In addition to teaching, Sarah is also a freelance writer.  Her writing work is dedicated to creating conversations around food, women, and education. Sarah’s work has appeared in Juxtapoz Magazine, School Arts Magazine, Edible Magazine, and Worcester Magazine. She writes a weekly lifestyle column in the Telegram and Gazette.


Sarah is the author of Small Teaching K-8, recently published by Jossey-Bass. In Small Teaching K-8, a team of veteran educators bridges the gap between cognitive theory and the K-8 classroom environment, applying the same foundational research found in author James Lang’s bestselling Small Teaching: Everyday Lessons from the Science of Learning to the elementary and middle school setting. Via clear descriptions and step-by-step methods, Sarah demonstrates how to integrate simple interventions into pre-existing pedagogical techniques to dramatically improve student outcomes.


Sarah earned a Masters of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from Boston College as well as a Masters of Educational Leadership and Administration from Worcester State University. She holds a Bachelors degree is in English and Education from Fordham University and MA DESE licensure in English 5-12, Library K-12, and school administration 5-8.
