Special Education IEP Team Chairs Institute

A Job-Alike Series for

IEP Team Chairs - new and seasoned

In your role as team chair, have you struggled to create a climate of trust where everyone feels safe and validated? Do you wonder how to navigate legal obligations, ethics, and relationships in what can be an emotionally charged environment? Are you looking for tools to communicate data and critical information in a way that engages stakeholders and moves the meeting forward? Are you searching for ways to properly prepare for and run the meeting

The team chair is integral in ensuring that the needs of all parties are met. This requires a skillful balancing of curriculum, instruction, student services and family engagement, along with strong relationships with colleagues, students and families. Unfortunately, this work can become conflict-driven, complex and isolating with few occasions for turning experience into wisdom. In a process where optimism, positivity, and belief in the process is critical, you must hone your ability to read the room, set the tone, model and deal with the physical and emotional manifestations of stress.

In this program, you will learn to lead meetings where everyone recognizes that they have shared goals, how to navigate the demands from each stakeholder, and to leverage your daily interactions into opportunities for growth.

Scheduled with you in mind.

In-person sessions allow for more intensive training opportunities, relationship building and group work.

Remote sessions provide convenient forums to sustain implementation efforts and address ongoing problems of practice.

Thank you for putting together such a useful workshop - possibly the best one I have ever attended - so on target for what we need as team chairs!

SPED Laws have been an area that I have been looking to grow in and I have learned so much from this PD. I have also gotten some great tips on how to more efficiently and effectively chair meetings.

Robin and Abby were so knowledgeable it was incredible. Not only on the topics that they prepared for the class, but on questions that they were asked on the spot. They provided examples that they have come across and provided wording that we can use. They were also super welcoming and created an environment that felt safe to share and ask questions. It was truly judgement free. I would 100% sign up for a class by them in the future.

I feel like I can approach challenging situations that may arise with more confidence and calmness.

This is the best PD I have ever taken!
